Etiquette for Attending Fine Arts Events

Please
refrain from talking during the performance.
o
While
you may only be whispering it does create a distraction for those around you.
o
This
also includes whispering to or disciplining your other children
á
Please
turn off/silence all pagers, cell phones, and watch alarms.
o
These
can be very distracting to the performers and others in the audience
á
Do
not wave to your child/friend during the performance.
o
This
creates a distraction for the performer and others in the audience
á
Refrain
from using flash photography during the performance.
o
Flash
photography is a distraction and creates a dangerous atmosphere for the performers
á
Applaud
at appropriate times.
o
Formal
Concert – at the end of each selection not after each movement.
o
Jazz
Concert – at the end of each selection or to recognize the efforts of a
soloist.
o
Theatre
Production – after each act/scene.
á
Do
not leave as soon as your childŐs portion of the performance is over.
o
All
of the students deserve a full audience for their performances.
o
Remember
that the next time, your childŐs performance might be scheduled last.
o
In
the contest/festival environment it is appropriate to leave once the door has
been opened.
á
Do
not leave while the performance is in progress.
o
If
you need to use the restroom do so between musical numbers or between scenes.
á
Arrive
at the performance with a positive attitude.
o Your child is sensitive to your attitude
towards their performance. Their
performance may very well reflect your attitude.
