STATE DEBATE TOURNAMENT 2012

DES MOINES ROOSEVELT, INDIANOLA, IOWA CITY WEST, AND ANKENY WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE IHSSA STATE DEBATE TOURNAMENT
The Iowa High School Speech Association held the State Debate Tournament January 6th and 7th. The Tournament took place at the DMACC campus in Ankeny. Results are listed below:

Two-person -Jeffrey Ding & Kai Yan, Iowa City West Champion
Joseph Carroll & Nicholas Staver, Dowling Catholic 1st Runner-up

Lincoln Douglas - Grant Laverty, Ankeny Champion
Moses Sloven, West Des Moines Valley 1st Runner -up

Student Congress - Tanner Westberg, Ankeny Champion
Luke Theuma , DM Roosevelt, 1st Runner-up
Umar Farooq, Ames 2nd Runner-up
Ben Frazier, DM East, 3rd Runner-up

Public Forum- Riggleman Division
Madison Holmes & Max Hardt, DM Roosevelt Champion
Eleanor Marshall & Katie Lew, Iowa City West 1st Runner-up
Galligan Division
Ryan De Camp & Jacy Gomez, Indianola and Celena Krause & Alexa Brown Indianola (Close-out) both teams are State Champions

Sweepstakes Trophy- Des Moines Roosevelt . The Sweepstakes Trophy is given to the top school at the tournament. This is considered the State Championship in Debate. Dowling Catholic 4th, Ankeny 3rd, WDM Valley 2nd, and Des Moines Roosevelt 1st.
